Ipoh /ˈiːpoʊ/ (Chinese: 怡保; pinyin: Yí bǎo Tamil: ஈப்போ) is the capital city of Perak state, Malaysia and also one of the largest cities in the country. It is approximately 200 km (125 miles) north of Kuala Lumpur and 130 km (81 miles) south of Penang on the North-South Expressway.
It is bordered by Sitiawan on the west, Cameron Highlands on the east and Tanjung Malim in the south.
Its geographic location in the rich tin-bearing valley of the Kinta River made it a natural centre of growth. It grew rapidly as a mining town, especially in the 1920s and 1930s. A local Hakka miner, millionaire Yau Tet-Shin, started developing a large tract of the city in the early 1930s, today known as the 'New Town', from the eastern bank of the Kinta River to Greentown. In 1937, Ipoh was made the capital of Perak, replacing Taiping.
Ipoh was invaded by the Japanese on 15 December 1941. In March 1942, the Japanese Civil Administration or Perak Shu Seicho was set up at the St. Michael's Institution. After the liberation of Malaya by British forces, Ipoh remained the capital of Perak, till this day.
A coffeehouse, coffee shop, or café is an establishment which primarily serves hot coffee, related coffee beverages (e.g., café latte, cappuccino, espresso), tea, and other hot beverages. Some coffeehouses also serve cold beverages such as iced coffee and iced tea. Many cafés also serve some type of food, such as light snacks, muffins, or pastries. Coffeehouses range from owner-operated small businesses to large multinational companies such as Starbucks.
In continental Europe, a café is a traditional type of coffeehouse, but elsewhere the term "café" may also refer to a tea room, "greasy spoon" (a small and inexpensive restaurant, colloquially called a "caff"), transport café, or other casual eating and drinking place. A coffeehouse may share some of the same characteristics of a bar or restaurant, but it is different from a cafeteria. Many coffee houses in the Middle East and in West Asian immigrant districts in the Western world offer shisha (nargile in Greek and Turkish), flavored tobacco smoked through a hookah. Espresso bars are a type of coffeehouse that specializes in serving espresso and espresso-based drinks.
New Hollywood, sometimes referred to as the "American New Wave", refers to a periodization in American film history from the mid 1960s (Bonnie and Clyde, The Graduate) to the early 1980s (Heaven's Gate, One from the Heart) when a new generation of young filmmakers came to prominence in United States, influencing the types of films produced, their production and marketing, and the way major studios approached film-making. In New Hollywood films, the film director, rather than the studio, took on a key authorial role. "New Hollywood" usually refers to a period of film-making rather than a style of film-making, though it can be referred to as a movement. The films made in this era are stylistically characterized in that their narrative often strongly deviated from classical norms.
After the demise of the studio system and the rise of television, the artistic quality of films and their commercial success was diminished. The "New Hollywood" period, spanning the mid-60s and early 80s, was a period of artistic and commercial revival. Though they largely continued to follow classical norms, the films made in this period are characterized in that their narrative logic and subject matter were often unconventional.

We’re road tripping around Perak and today we take you on a MASSIVE MALAYSIAN STREET FOOD TOUR around Ipoh to eat some it’s most famous dishes. Where we ate: Nasi Ganja at Kedah Kopi Yong Suan, 2, Jalan Yang Kalsom, Taman Jubilee, 30300 Ipoh, Perak. Open 7 days, 9:30am to 5:00pm. Halal. Nasi ganja or ‘weed rice’ is really popular in Ipoh! It’s called weed rice not because it has marijuana in it but rather that it’s extremely addictive! We have to agree! Nasi ganja is actually nasi kandar- an Indian Muslim rice and curry dish. We sample ours with fried spiced chicken, some okra, half a salted egg, acar (vegetable pickle) and a dollop of coconut sambal. HEAVENLY! Curry Mee at Cafe Wah Nam, 30, Jalan...

The term “Hipster Cafés” implies trendy cafés which are deemed favorite hangout spots for youngsters usually the Millennials, i.e. the Generation Y. From a standpoint, Cafés largely serve as centres of social interaction, providing a place for people to gather, talk and chit-chat. However, today the bar to attract attention has been raised manifold. While good atmosphere of a café has become a pre-requisite, customers also expect a high level of creativity in the whole concept as well as quality in the food and drinks served. Though being unique is a factor, don’t forget to balance it with simplicity is crucial too. So who are trending now? Let’s check out !

And in my case, famous for Pomelo fruit. I was told that food is tasty and there are some things to see around town. It is very easy getting to Ipoh from KL, but only IF you PLAN in advance. Don't do what I did and wait till the same day as trains were fully booked and the buses DO NOT depart from KL Pudu Sentral (as wrongly advised on Google Maps).
